During the seven hour professional development session, middle and high school teachers have the opportunity to perform hands-on experiments of the nine lessons in the Materials Science Classroom Kit, network with professionals at an industry luncheon, and earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Teachers will also receive a free kit to take home.

Educators from across disciplines are welcomed to join! In past workshops, we've trained K-12 teachers in chemistry, engineering, and the arts.

CGIF hosts multiple teacher training events each years, so if you are interested in sponsorship or volunteering for an event, contact Amanda Engen at aengen@ceramics.org to learn about the available opportunities.

“Only half the day has gone by and I've learned and gained so much information from the peer tutoring and the other participants who's attended. I've learned a lot of information about opportunities for my future professional development and how that can be passed down to my kids.”

Janet Pennington, Reedsville, OH

“I think the big thing that I've learned that's useful is just how to bring this into my classroom, taking like materials science, which can often be really complicated and take expensive equipment, but how to take that to a more manageable scale. Like through using like the jolly ranchers to make glass, to kind of simulate that in a safe and engaging way for students.”

Alex Henz, Springfield, OH
