The Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation is pleased to announce the release of an exciting, redesigned version of the Materials Science Classroom Kit.
The kit, originally developed by the ACerS President’s Council of Student Advisors, facilitates learning and inspires students to pursue careers in materials science. Feedback from teachers and other users was utilized to select the best demonstrations and interactive labs from earlier versions of the kit for inclusion into one convenient updated package. Through fun, hands-on lessons and labs, students are introduced to the basic classes of materials — ceramics, composites, metals, and polymers.
The Materials Science Classroom Kit is the most comprehensive resource of its kind. Lessons in the kit comply with Next Generation Science Standards, and STEM teachers from around the country are being introduced to this valuable, effective teaching tool.
To further assist those who teach materials science, the Foundation is now including the book, The Magic of Ceramics, to accompany each kit. This popular book introduces the nontechnical reader to the many exciting applications of ceramics while teaching key scientific concepts.
Individual as well as Corporate Members are encouraged to sponsor a Materials Science Classroom Kit and The Magic of Ceramics book for a local school for only $250. For multiple orders, the sponsor’s name (and logo, if appropriate) will be added to the kit packaging so that schools receiving the kit will know of the sponsor’s generosity. In any case, the school receives contact information for the sponsor.
