Foundation's Annual Report Highlights a Successful Year
By Belinda Raines
The Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation (CGIF) stayed true to its mission of attracting, inspiring, and training the next generation of ceramic and glass professionals through the expansion of several programs geared toward student outreach. Its second annual report was distributed in April and highlighted the outstanding work of the Foundation.
Introducing young people to the world of ceramic and glass materials is one the main goals of the Foundation and this effort was greatly enhanced by the launch of the exciting re-designed Materials Science Classroom Kit, our outstanding tool that facilitates learning and inspires students to pursue further studies in materials science.
Student and educator outreach was expanded and included educator conferences in; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Columbus, Ohio; Los Angeles, California; and Akron, Ohio. Additionally, the CGIF was a popular exhibitor at the 2016 USA Science & Engineering Festival in Washington, DC. The CGIF presented hands-on ceramic and glass materials demonstrations and the Materials Science Classroom Kit for the 360,000 students, teachers, and parents in attendance.
Student exchanges are becoming an important part of the Foundation’s outreach efforts! We worked with the European Ceramic Society on several projects which encouraged the cross-cultural sharing of knowledge, ideas, and perspectives for both U.S.-based students and international students.
