The Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation participated as an exhibitor at the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) National Conference in Los Angeles, California, which took place March 30 – April 3, 2017.

Partnering with the NSTA is one of the best ways we have to introduce science teachers to our Materials Science Classroom Kit and the accompanying The Magic of Ceramics book.  The national conference was attended by more than 9,500 people!

Visitors to the CGIF exhibit were able to learn about and participate in two demonstrations from the kit: Candy Fiber Pull and Glass Bead on a Wire. Thanks to student volunteers, the demonstrations proved to be extremely educational, interesting, and popular with visitors.

The CGIF extends many thanks to Lavina Backman, PCSA Outreach Chair, and Wennie Wang of University of Santa Barbara, who recruited volunteers to assist with the demonstrations:

Kara Phillips Bridges, University of California, Irvine

Kenta Ohtaki, University of California, Irvine

Emily Levin, University of California, Santa Barbara

Tuan Nguyen, University of California, Santa Barbara

The NSTA is the largest organization in the world committed to promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all. NSTA’s current membership of 55,000 includes science teachers, science supervisors, administrators, scientists, business and industry representatives, and others involved in and committed to science education.
