We’re excited to reflect on an incredible summer filled with innovation, education, and collaboration in the Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation (CGIF). Here are the highlights:
COSI Science Festival
We kicked off the summer at the COSI Big Science Celebration, the largest STEM event in Ohio, featuring over 100 vendor stations for children, families, and teachers to enjoy hands-on experiences. Owens Corning supported CGIF’s fiberglass-themed booth, providing two volunteers and assistance from the President’s Council of Student Advisors (PCSA) outreach committee to ensure the event was a success.
Teacher Training Workshop
Our Teacher Training Workshop was a major success with over 20 teachers in attendance in Denver, Colorado with each teacher receiving a Material Science Classroom Kit for attending. The event featured multiple demonstrations from our Material Science kits and active participation from the teachers. We empowered educators with the knowledge and tools to inspire future material scientists in their classrooms.
Collaborations with Allied Minerals and Glass Axis
We introduced our newest program, the Ceramic and Glass Industry Tours, to science teachers with a trip to Allied Mineral Products, a leading manufacturer of refractory ceramics worldwide. To help teachers better understand the post-graduation options available to their high school students, each Allied professional also shared information about their own educational experiences.
The Glass Learning Opportunities Workshop (GLOW) introduced materials science concepts to students, bringing nearly 80 of them to Glass Axis for an interactive field trip, generously funded by a grant from the Westerville Fund of the Columbus Foundation.
As we reflect on this action-packed summer, we’re grateful for the support and enthusiasm of our community. Stay tuned for more exciting events and partnerships happening this summer!
