The Refractories Institute Scholarship Program
The Refractories Institute (TRI) offers academic scholarships to qualified students enrolled in degree programs who have demonstrated interest in refractory manufacturing through their coursework or related activities. Each year, a limited number of scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and the applicant’s proven experience and enthusiasm for the field of refractories.
Each scholarship is a one-time $5,000 grant. Please note that previous recipients are not eligible to apply again.
To the Applicant:
The following criteria must be met to qualify for the The Refractories Institute Scholarship Program.
- You must be a full-time student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in ceramic engineering, materials science, or a related discipline at a North American college, university, or technical institute.
Required application materials:
To be considered, applicants must submit a letter of application that includes or attaches the following:

Résumé containing at minimum: mailing address, phone number, email address, school, major, GPA, expected graduation date, relevant part-time or summer work experience, awards and honors, and extracurricular activities.

Explanation of interest in refractories, such as relevant courses, papers, research projects, employment, co-ops, or work-study roles—along with any other information helpful to the Scholarship Committee.

One recommendation letter from a department chair, faculty advisor, or professor confirming the applicant’s academic performance and interest in refractories.

Certified copy of the applicant’s current academic transcript.
For the 2026–2027 academic year, completed applications must be received by TRI no later than May 15, 2026. TRI’s Scholarship Committee and Board of Directors will review all submissions, and applicants may be contacted for a phone or in-person interview as part of the evaluation process.
