The Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation (CGIF) located in Columbus, Ohio, and Keramos, a national ceramic engineering fraternity, are pleased to announce they have partnered to promote interest in ceramic and glass engineering, technology, and science. By working together, both organizations plan to increase projects and activities to introduce young people to ceramic and glass science.
As partners, the CGIF will provide funding to the 14 university-based Keramos chapters that submit proposals to perform outreach activities on campus and to younger students in the community. The CGIF will also make its popular Materials Science Classroom Kit available to each Keramos chapter that is granted funding.
“We are very excited to work with Keramos to expand outreach to students,” said Marcus Fish, Director of Development for the CGIF. “Providing additional learning opportunities to young people helps further our mission of supporting the next generation of ceramic and glass scientists and engineers.”
Brian Gilmore, President, Keramos National Board of Directors, echoed those thoughts. “Keramos is excited about partnering with the CGIF. We look forward to giving our chapters more opportunities to enhance their outreach efforts both on campus and in the surrounding communities.”
The Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation was created in 2014 by The American Ceramic Society to attract, inspire, and train the next generation of ceramic and glass professionals. The CGIF has launched programs in student outreach, international student exchanges, travel grants, student leadership development, a university-industry network, and its online Ceramic and Glass Career Center.
The origins of Keramos date to the formation of Beta Pi Kappa at The Ohio State University in 1902 to promote the interaction between and camaraderie among ceramic engineering professionals and students. Keramos aims to promote and emphasize scholarship and character in the thoughts of students in ceramics, to stimulate mental development, and to promote interest in the professional aspects of ceramic engineering, technology, and science.
Keramos chapters are invited to submit a proposal for projects that are directly related to introducing students to ceramic and glass science. Click here to access the Keramos Call for Proposals for Spring 2018. Proposals are due by March 30, 2018.
The chapters within the Keramos fraternity are located at the following institutions of higher learning:
Alfred University | U. of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign |
University of Arizona | Iowa State University |
Clemson University | Missouri S & T |
Colorado School of Mines | Rutgers |
University of Connecticut | The Ohio State University |
