The Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation (CGIF) recently approved funding for student outreach grants to the following applicants:
ACerS Humanitarian Activities Network: $7,000 for the creation and distribution of a video to inspire a diverse population of students to participate in hands-on experiences with ceramic materials technologies used to fight waterborne diseases in poor communities and also consider a career in ceramics engineering.
Clemson University Material Advantage (MA) Chapter: $1,500 for outreach demonstrations with ceramic 3D printer to demonstrate the concepts of 3D printing and ceramic/glass sintering, plus a video to be shared with the MA network.
Conrad Weiser Science Research Institute Fund: $15,000 to develop and integrate differentiated materials science curriculum as a sequential research-based model to follow the Materials Science Kits of CGIF.
Indian Institute of Science: $11,000 to develop and implement an academia-industry outreach program on conventional and advanced ceramic manufacturing for high school and undergraduate students.
Laval University, Center for Optics, Photonics, and Lasers: $15,000 to support the 2019 School on Photonic Materials, a week-long course of lectures and training.
Montana Tech Foundation: $2,000 plus Materials Science Classroom Kits and materials to support the Montana Materials Science and Engineering Educational Outreach initiative.
University of California, Irvine: $1,500 plus Materials Science Classroom Kits to support after-school STEM Education Workshops at the community library.
University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez: $9,974 to develop and implement programming related to “Using Ceramics as a Recruiting Strategy to Engage Geographically-Challenged Female Students and their Communities”.
