The Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation, building on lessons developed by Dr. Mary Reidmeyer of Missouri S & T, has recently launched a new educational resource. The Mini Materials Demo Kit is a collection of seven simple demonstrations for use practically anywhere by parents, teachers, and students who are utilizing online and at-home teaching resources.
The lessons are written for a wide age-range of learners and the whole family can have fun learning about such topics as:
- The Science of Silly Putty®
- What is Fiber Optics?
- Magic Color Beads and UV Light
- How are Glass Fibers Made?
- What is Fluorescence?
- What is a Shape Memory Alloy?
- Does heating an aluminum nail make it harder?
Our larger Materials Science Classroom Kit is intended for use in the classroom. Five of the nine lessons are for the teacher to demonstrate; the remaining four are for students to perform in small groups with assistance from the teacher.
The new Mini Materials Demo Kit is intended for use virtually anywhere by students to gain hands-on experience and knowledge, and the lessons are written in such a way that they can be meaningful to elementary, middle, or high school students. In response to the pandemic, the Mini Materials Demo Kit fulfills a need for teachers and parents who are utilizing online and at-home teaching resources.
The Mini Materials Demo Kit provides interesting activities to be done at home or in the classroom and can be purchased for only $49; quantity discounts are available for orders of 5 or more. Donations can be made for providing kits to those with limited resources.
